ABOUT US
Big Bear Camp is tucked in its own small valley with year round Miller Creek in the Siuslaw River watershed in the Oregon coastal range near Walton, Oregon. It was once a homestead in the 1800’s. Owners and hosts, Hal and Tonia, found and purchased this amazing property in 2003. We started building the lodge in 2007.
We established Big Bear Camp as a Conservation Easement in 2019 with NW Land Conservation Trust to protect this beautiful land, forest, animal and plant life. Miller Creek supports a major Coho Salmon population.
Big Bear Camp’s Mission:
We provide a beautiful space for comfort, renewal and spiritual growth and foster stewardship and community through group gatherings and educational programs. We hope to promote greater awareness, understanding and enjoyment of the natural environment.
Off the Grid:
We love being off the grid, without cell phones and internet. We do have phone access for emergencies. As one guest said, “You have to disconnect in order to reconnect.”
We designed and built our solar system and lodge to be as efficient and sustainable as possible. Our guests frequently comment on how pleasant and comfortable it is. We have lights in the lodge and bathrooms and showers in the night. We have battery operated lanterns in the yurts. You will want to bring flashlights for getting around the campground at night.
Your Camp Hosts:
Big Bear Camp Hosts, Tonia Blum and Hal Palmer feel blessed to be stewards of this beautiful property.
